Nyarushanje Women Council Elects NRM Flag Bearers as EC Warns Against Multiple Stamps

Nyarushanje Women Council representatives have elected NRM flag bearers for several positions, with two positions remaining unopposed.

The elections were held at Nyarushanje Subcounty Headquarters, where Jolly Mashaija from Bwanga Parish emerged unopposed as the Women Council Chairperson NRM flag bearer, while Emily Kyarikunda from Kisiizi Parish was also declared unopposed as Treasurer.

Ninsiima Glorious Beyendera from Ndago Parish won the Vice Women Chairperson position, Nagaba Einid from Ihunga Parish won the Secretary position, while Kihembo Kihembo Agatha from Ibanda Parish won the Publicity position through an election.

The positions of Women Council Chairperson and Secretary were initially among those that remained unopposed, according to officials.

After the elections, the successful candidates thanked voters for entrusting them with the NRM flag and pledged to prioritize women’s welfare. They said they would promote productive skills, support women’s groups and cooperatives, lobby for enterprises, and encourage women to build strong families while participating in development activities.

The candidates also commended Rubabo County MP Hon. Mathias Rwabugumi and Rukungiri District Woman MP Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungi for supporting the election by facilitating transportation for representatives.

The Nyarushanje Subcounty NRM Registrar, Biryatwiita Narasisiyo Kikoreere, together with Nyarushanje Subcounty NRM Mobilizer Wkyson Muyambi, popularly known as Nkuduman, said the primary election was conducted freely and fairly using the lining-up method.

They said candidates who lost accepted the results and joined the winners, describing the unity as important for strengthening the NRM party in Nyarushanje.

However, Electoral Commission officials raised concern over the issuing of NRM flag bearer stamps to more than one candidate for the same position.

Speaking on behalf of the Nyarushanje Subcounty Electoral Commission, Ndago Parish Electoral Commission Supervisor Twikiriize Winfred warned NRM registrars against awarding multiple candidates stamps for the same position, saying this could create confusion during the official nomination process.

She explained that where more than one person presents themselves as the flag bearer for the same position, Electoral Commission officials may be forced to register the first candidate who arrives for nomination, potentially causing misunderstandings and disputes.

Winfred urged the successful NRM flag bearers to pick their nomination forms and prepare for the official nomination exercise, which begins early Friday, August 14, 2026.

She called on all candidates to observe the nomination dates and times and avoid actions that could create confusion during the electoral process.
