Chameleone’s Son Abba Marcus Arrested in U.S. Over Domestic Assault Allegation
MINNEAPOLIS/KAMPALA — Abba Marcus Mayanja, the 20-year-old son of Ugandan musician Joseph Mayanja, popularly known as Jose Chameleone, has been arrested in the United States over an alleged domestic assault, according to booking information circulated by a Minneapolis-area crime alert platform.
The booking information says Mayanja was taken into custody by Edina Police on August 14, 2026, over a misdemeanor domestic assault allegation involving an alleged act intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death.
He was listed as being in custody with bail or bond set at $10,000.
The arrest comes amid earlier allegations of violence involving his pregnant partner, identified in Ugandan entertainment reports as Angel.
In May, Angel publicly accused Mayanja of physically assaulting her during a dispute, allegations he denied.
The couple had earlier publicly disclosed that they were expecting a child, with reports showing Angel with a baby bump.
Mayanja at the time dismissed claims that he had assaulted her and said allegations circulating online were false.
It was not immediately clear from the publicly available booking information whether the August 14 arrest relates to the same allegations or whether the complainant in the latest case is his pregnant partner.
Police booking information describes the case as Domestic Assault – Misdemeanor.
No detailed police account of the circumstances leading to Mayanja’s arrest was immediately available.
Mayanja is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
