Two Killed, Four Children Injured in Mubende–Mityana Road Crash

Police in Mubende District are investigating a road crash that killed two people and injured four children after an Actros truck reportedly lost control and overturned onto an oncoming Nissan Murano.

The crash occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, at about 8:25 p.m. at Kagavu in Kalonga Sub-county, Mubende District, along the Mubende–Mityana road.

According to preliminary police information, the Actros truck, tractor registration number UBK 132F and trailer registration number UBK 710J, was travelling from Mubende towards Mityana when the driver reportedly lost control while descending at Kagavu.

The truck crossed into the opposite lane before overturning onto an oncoming Nissan Murano, registration number UBD 063R, which was carrying several occupants.

The impact killed two people at the scene and injured four children. The trailer came to rest on top of the Nissan Murano, trapping the occupants inside the vehicle.

Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said officers from Mubende Police responded to the scene under the command of the District Police Commander.

“The rescue operation required the use of a crane to lift the trailer that had rested on top of the Nissan Murano so that the victims and deceased persons could be accessed,” Kigozi said.

Police and other responders subsequently removed the wreckage and retrieved the injured occupants and the bodies of the deceased.

The injured children were identified as Johana Bala, 11; Isabella Rebecca, 5; Gabriella Kawini, 12; and Dorothy, 12.

One of the deceased was identified as Kenneth Kaijuka, 45, while the identity of the second deceased man had not been established by the time of reporting.

The injured children were transported to Mubende Hospital in a police ambulance, registration number UP 4906, for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Police said arrangements were underway to tow the wreckage from the scene to the police yard as investigations continued.

Preliminary findings indicate that careless driving may have contributed to the crash, although police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged loss of control of the truck.

“We have commenced inquiries to establish the exact circumstances under which the driver lost control and caused the crash,” Kigozi said.

Police have urged motorists using the Mubende–Mityana road to exercise caution, particularly when approaching slopes and other potentially hazardous sections of the highway.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
