Members of the 12th Parliament have been reminded that leadership and promotion come from God and are given for a particular purpose.

Presiding over the dedication service for the 12th Parliament, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Rev. Dr. Stanley Kaziimba Mugalu, called on lawmakers in the 12th Parliament to be accountable for the positions they have assumed.

The Archbishop stressed that the title of Honourable comes with responsibility, adding that during their five-year term, MPs’ conduct and actions must reflect integrity.

Kaziimba Mugalu called on MPs to work towards speaking for the voiceless and ensuring their development instead of fighting their own battles.

Thomas Tayebwa, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, called on MPs and all leaders at different levels to serve their constituencies with honesty.

Tayebwa advised fellow MPs to tell their voters the truth regarding development issues without fear of losing political support.

Parliamentary Anglican Chaplaincy Gillian Okello said the 12th Parliament is exceptional regarding its interest in faith-related matters.

Okello cited the birth of three new prayer altars: one in the Speaker’s Boardroom every Monday, another in the Commissioners’ Boardroom on Tuesday morning, and another at the office of the Leader of the Opposition on Tuesday afternoon.

MPs were also asked to maintain Parliament as a place where God is honoured.

Commissioner Faith Nakut, the acting chairperson of the Anglican Chaplaincy Council, encouraged MPs to remain committed to the parliamentary prayer sessions and to make a monthly financial contribution to the Chaplaincy.
