Kapir County MP Abraham Isamat Presses Energy Minister Over Delayed Power Supply

The Member of Parliament for Kapir County, Hon. Abraham Isamat, has called the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Sidronius Okaasai, to urgently address the lack of electricity in his constituency.

Dr. Isamat said he had repeatedly raised the issue of power supply with Minister Okaasai, who is his immediate neighbour, but that his requests had yet to yield results.

He said access to electricity remains a major concern for Members of Parliament because many communities continue to demand power without receiving the necessary connections.

“I have been approaching him and discussing with him issues regarding power in my county, but none of it has happened,” Isamat said.

He recalled that he had raised the matter with Okaasai during the 11th Parliament, joking that the Minister could not continue being his neighbour while his constituency remained without electricity.

“Should I not get power, honestly, even God will be able to punish you because you cannot be my neighbour and I don’t have power,” he said.

Now serving in the 12th Parliament alongside Minister Okaasai, Isamat urged the Energy Ministry to treat his request as urgent, saying Kapir County has many communities with the potential and demand for electricity.

“Now that I’m in the 12th Parliament, and himself is also in the 12th Parliament, I think he should really consider my request as something that is urgent,” he said.

He added that lack of electricity continues to affect communities across the country, making access to power one of the pressing concerns raised by legislators on behalf of their constituents.
