Exposes!! Nameere Visits Budaka Police as Officials Allegedly Reveal Network Behind Missing Road Funds

State Minister for Local Government Hon. Justine Nameere has visited Budaka Central Police Station following the arrest of two district officials over questions surrounding missing funds meant for road works in Budaka District.

The officials, identified as the Budaka District Engineer and the District Inspector of Roads, were reportedly ordered arrested by Minister Nameere as investigations into the alleged disappearance and misuse of road funds intensified.

According to information presented to the minister, the two officials later made written statements in which they allegedly identified other individuals they claimed were involved in the misuse of public resources in the district.

The officials reportedly named an Inspector of Works, an Assistant Engineer Officer, an unnamed senior government official and a former Member of Parliament, whom they allegedly described as key players in what they claimed was a broader network facilitating corruption in Budaka.

The allegations, however, remain subject to investigation and have not been independently established in court.

The officials also reportedly raised concerns about positions within the district that are allegedly never formally filled, yet individuals purportedly act as representatives of those positions and receive monthly payments.

If verified, such arrangements could point to a possible ghost-worker scheme, in which public funds are paid to individuals who are not legitimately occupying or performing the duties attached to the positions.

The revelations were reportedly contained in written statements submitted during the minister’s visit, potentially providing investigators with material to examine the allegations and establish whether public funds were unlawfully diverted.

The minister’s visit also reportedly brought attention to concerns within the health sector.

Budaka District Health Officer is said to have made disclosures concerning alleged misconduct involving some health workers and individuals described as intermediaries or “mafias.” The allegations reportedly involve the diversion and sale of government medical equipment and drugs to private hospitals and health centres.

The DHO also reportedly raised concerns about allegations that some patients are being charged money for services or commodities that should be provided through the public health system.

Such allegations, if confirmed, could raise serious questions about accountability, access to essential medicines and the management of public health resources in the district.

Minister Nameere’s intervention comes amid growing pressure for local governments to account for public funds and ensure that government programmes benefit the communities for which they are intended.

The claims emerging from Budaka are allegations at this stage, and the individuals named in the reported statements should be given an opportunity to respond as investigations proceed.

The minister’s visit and the reported written confessions could now provide investigators with leads to establish where the missing road funds went, whether a wider network was involved and whether similar practices exist in other departments.

The developments have also renewed calls for stronger oversight of public resources, with the central question being whether government funds are reaching ordinary Ugandans or being lost through corruption and administrative abuse.

As investigations continue, residents will be watching closely to see whether the allegations result in prosecutions, recovery of public funds and disciplinary action against anyone found responsible.

“There will always be truth,” Minister Nameere reportedly emphasised, urging Ugandans not to support individuals involved in stealing or misusing public resources.
