Arsenal fans will be absolutely furious with what happened twice during Tottenham’s win vs Man Utd

Arsenal and talk of red cards is becoming very familiar this season, probably too much so in the eyes of Mikel Arteta.

Many felt as if Riccardo Calafiori deserved to be sent off whilst Arsenal were drawing 2-2 with Leicester City on Sunday – the Italian was lucky to escape a second yellow.

Of course, Leandro Trossard enjoyed no such fortune away to Manchester City a week before, a red card that arguably cost Arsenal two points.

Trossard was penalised for kicking the ball away after the whistle had gone, the same reason why Declan Rice was dismissed a fortnight before at the Emirates Stadium.

The decision also cost Arsenal two points, the only two occasions Arteta’s side have not won this season domestically.

Both decisions were harsh, and in explaining their respective decisions the referees felt as if they had ‘no choice’, they were following the letter of the law.

Man United escape punishment as Arsenal handed two red cards in two weeks

That being said, that ‘letter of the law’ appeared to be interrupted in a different manner during Tottenham’s 3-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday.

Arsenal fans could feel rightly aggrieved if they were watching the game, given that neither Manuel Ugarte or Noussair Mazraoui were punished for kicking the ball away after the whistle had gone.

Journalist Oliver Holt captured the moment and shared his insight on X, demonstrating the double-standards at play.

Holt said: “Further to Arsenal’s legitimate complaints of a lack of consistency in rule about delaying restart, both Ugarte and Mazraoui both gave away fouls for Manchester United and then kicked the ball away when Spurs were trying to take free kick.

“No yellow. Not even a rebuke.”

Of course, United did end up receiving a red card in the game courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ rash challenge, but that won’t comfort Arsenal.

Arsenal also handed Riccardo Calafiori injury worry

Whilst Arsenal will be frustrated with the consistency of refereeing decisions across the Premier League right now, they do have more pressing concerns at hand.

Riccardo Calafiori picked up an injury late in Arsenal’s 4-2 victory over Leicester according to reports.

The Italian landed awkwardly on his knee when competing for a header, initially trying to shrug off the pain.

That being said, an injury expert has provided an update on Calafiori’s knee injury, explaining the possible timescales that he could be out.

Two more games to go for the Gunners before the next international break, and two more wins needed
