Two Children Killed, Three Injured in Kabalagala House Attack

Police are investigating an early-morning attack in Kabalagala in which two children were killed, three others injured and a vehicle burnt, with their mother among those injured.

Two children have been killed and three others injured in an early-morning attack at Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, in Kampala’s Makindye Division, police have said.

The incident occurred at about 4am on Thursday, August 20, 2026, and is being investigated as murder, attempted murder and arson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police South, a housemaid was awakened by an alarm and cries for help from children in the main house.

When she went to check, she found several children with severe injuries and immediately sought help.

Police said 14-year-old Daizy Khadija was found dead in her bedroom, while seven-year-old Dalena Hawa later died while receiving treatment at Nsambya Hospital.

Three other children, aged 13, eight and five, survived the attack and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Police identified the suspect as Dorothy Namayo, 43, a Kenyan national and mother of the victims.

Namayo was also found injured and is currently admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital under police guard.

During the incident, a Toyota Hiace vehicle at the premises was set on fire and completely burnt.

Police Fire Prevention Rescue Services responded and extinguished the fire, while a jerrycan suspected to have contained petrol was recovered from the scene.

Police said homicide detectives, Scene of Crime Officers and fire and rescue personnel examined and documented the scene, with several exhibits recovered for forensic examination.

The bodies of Khadija and Hawa were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Police said statements had been recorded from the person who reported the incident and other relevant witnesses as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and its motive.

The suspect remains under police guard at Mulago as inquiries continue.
