Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans (Yanga) have officially confirmed the departure of Ugandan midfielder Allan Okello, who is widely expected to join Moroccan club AS FAR Rabat.

Club president Hersi Said made the announcement while speaking to supporters, drawing a close to Okello’s brief yet highly productive stay with the Tanzanian title holders.

Yanga stopped short of identifying Okello’s next destination, but AS FAR are believed to be at the front of the queue for his signature after edging out competition from Wydad Athletic Club.

Okello arrived at Yanga from Vipers during the second half of last season and rapidly became a key member of the squad, ending the campaign as the team’s top goal-scorer with 14 goals.

Those displays sparked strong interest from sides beyond Tanzania, with AS FAR now appearing as his most probable next club.

A transfer to AS FAR would also allow Okello to link up once again with Portuguese coach Pedro Goncalves, who previously managed him at Yanga.

Although confirming the sale, Hersi indicated that Okello’s exit need not mark a permanent break from the club, hinting that a future return remains possible.

The anticipated move to Morocco would represent Okello’s second spell in the Maghreb region following an earlier stint with Paradou AC.
