A police officer attached to Tokora Sub County Police Station narrowly escaped death after unknown people set fire to his rented house in Tokora Trading Centre in the early hours of Friday. ‎The incident occurred at around 1:00am on August 21, 2026.

‎According to police, the unknown assailants locked the house from outside, poured petrol, and set it ablaze while the officer was inside. ‎The officer has been identified as Emmanuel Ebamu, in charge of CID at Tokora Sub-County Police Station.

‎Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, Mike Longole, confirmed the incident, saying a vigilant neighbour noticed smoke and heard an alarm. ‎The neighbour responded quickly, broke through the wall of the house, and rescued the officer.

‎‎”Police from Tokora Sub-County Police Station responded immediately, visited and documented the scene,” Longole said. ‎‎Ebamu was rushed to Tokora Health Centre IV for treatment and is pending referral to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.

‎Longole said no arrests have been made yet, but investigations into the suspected arson and attempted murder have commenced.

‎‎”The canine unit will be deployed to the scene, statements are being recorded from witnesses, and efforts to arrest the suspects are underway,” he noted.

‎‎”We condemn this criminal act in the strongest terms. An attack on a police officer is an attack on the security of the entire community,” Longole said.
