Kisoro Launches Crackdown on Corruption in PDM Fund Distribution

The Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) in Kisoro District has launched a crackdown on officials accused of engaging in corruption and bribery during the distribution of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.

Kisoro Deputy RDC Dan Ndikumwami announced the crackdown during an interview with Nile Post on the progress of the PDM programme in the district.

Ndikumwami said police operations were already underway to identify and apprehend officials suspected of involvement in corrupt practices, which he said had affected the implementation and progress of the programme.

He said some officials had already been arrested, while more arrests were expected as investigations and operations continued.

“We are cracking down on corruption in PDM distribution. Operations are ongoing,” Ndikumwami said.

He urged members of the public to join the fight against corruption by reporting suspected cases, saying efforts to eliminate the vice should begin at the grassroots level if government programmes are to achieve their intended development objectives.

Ndikumwami also warned PDM beneficiaries against misusing funds or accepting money through improper channels.

He urged beneficiaries who had received funds to use the money for its intended purpose and return any funds obtained through improper means, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action.

“PDM funds are meant to benefit communities and improve household incomes. All stakeholders should protect the programme from corruption, misuse and abuse,” Ndikumwami said.

He said the crackdown would target individuals who interfere with the distribution and management of PDM funds, regardless of their position.

The Deputy RDC called on local leaders, programme implementers and beneficiaries to work together to protect PDM funds and ensure that they reach their intended beneficiaries.

The Parish Development Model is a government programme aimed at transforming subsistence households into the money economy by supporting income-generating activities at the parish level.
