Ntungamo District Communication Officer Kushaba Found Dead in his Room

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Ntungamo District, Rosemary Atuhaire, has confirmed the death of Kushaba Anthony, the Ntungamo District Communication Officer, under unclear circumstances.

Kushaba was reportedly found dead in his room at the Ntungamo District headquarters on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Speaking to our reporter, Deputy RDC Atuhaire said Kushaba was last seen alive on Thursday in Nkongooro, Nyabihoko Sub-county, Kajara County, where he had attended the burial ceremony of a relative.

According to Atuhaire, Kushaba actively participated in the burial ceremony and was among those welcoming mourners who had gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased.

She said she later received a phone call informing her that Kushaba had been found dead in his room at the district headquarters.

Atuhaire said further information would be provided after authorities establish more details surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, Shillah Niweshaba, a neighbour to Kushaba, told our reporter by phone that Kushaba returned home on Thursday at around 11:00 p.m., driving himself in his car.

Niweshaba said Kushaba parked outside, entered his room and later returned to his car to pick up a bag. She said he met her outside and asked what she was doing, to which she responded that she was also returning from somewhere.

According to Niweshaba, she waited for Kushaba to open his room on Friday morning, but he did not respond.

She said that at around 3:00 p.m., two men arrived looking for Kushaba and found the door to his room still closed. After knocking several times without receiving a response, Niweshaba informed the landlord, who contacted Ntungamo Police Station.

Police officers later arrived and opened the door, where Kushaba was found lying inside the room.

Kushaba’s body was subsequently taken to Itojo Hospital for a postmortem examination.

The exact cause of death has not yet been established, and investigations are expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding his death.

By the time of filing this report, police had not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
