Rukungiri Mayor Urges Local Leaders to Separate Politics from Service Delivery

Rukungiri Municipality Mayor His Worship Boaz Kansiime Matiita has challenged newly elected local leaders to separate political party ideology from service delivery to promote unity and ensure all residents benefit from government programmes regardless of their political affiliation.

Mayor Matiita made the remarks on Friday, August 21, 2026, while officiating at the swearing-in ceremony and orientation of LC1 and LC2 chairpersons from Western Division at the division headquarters.

He described the new leadership term as a transition in service delivery and urged local leaders to avoid using political party colours, attire and ideology in a manner that could create divisions or discourage residents from cooperating with leaders.

The Deputy Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipal Council, Justus Ampaire Kagz, cautioned local leaders against personalising government stamps and warned chairpersons against misuse of government motorcycles.

The LC3 Chairperson for Western Division, Sylvia Twinomugisha Katimbira, urged the newly sworn-in leaders to maintain integrity and protect their reputation while serving the public.

Town Clerk for Western Division John Kwesiga, who facilitated the orientation, reminded the leaders to adhere to laws governing local governments to avoid actions that could lead to legal consequences.

The Western Division Council Speaker, Topher Behimbisa Science, asked LC chairpersons to follow the established leadership hierarchy, properly use official stamps and appreciate voters for choosing leaders based on their previous records.

Meanwhile, newly sworn-in leaders, including Karangaro Ward LC2 Chairperson Idd Maisho, Northern A Ward LC2 Chairperson Engineer William Tumwesigye and Kakyeeka LC1 Chairperson Richard Twesigye, pledged to prioritise quality service delivery and called for continued government support and motivation for local leaders.
