John Segawa blames Chameleone for son Abba Marcus’ troubles

Actor and filmmaker John Segawa has sparked debate over the recent troubles involving Jose Chameleone’s son, Abba Marcus Mayanja, arguing that the singer should take responsibility for the foundation laid during his son’s formative years.

Speaking in a recent YouTube interview, Segawa questioned why blame should be placed on the United States, where Abba has lived for only about four years.

“We should blame Chameleone for Abba’s misfortunes. He went to America when he was 17 years. There is no way you can blame him for just the four years he has been there. The person to blame is Joseph,” Segawa said.

His remarks follow Abba’s recent arrest in Minnesota over allegations of domestic assault involving his pregnant partner. The case is before the courts, and Abba remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Segawa argued that Abba spent the first 17 years of his life in Uganda, where he was raised under the influence of his family, and therefore believes his upbringing should also be part of the conversation surrounding his current challenges.

At 20, Abba is legally responsible for his own actions, but Segawa’s comments have revived a wider debate about how much responsibility parents should bear for the choices made by their adult children.

Chameleone, whose real name is Joseph Mayanja, has previously faced public scrutiny over his parenting, with some family matters involving his children playing out publicly.

However, the debate also raises another question: where does parental responsibility end and an adult child’s personal accountability begin?

For Segawa, the circumstances surrounding Abba’s upbringing cannot simply be separated from the difficulties he is facing today.
