Who is Balunywa, the MUBS Guild Contestant in Trending Campaign Videos?

The race for the Guild Presidency has taken a vibrant path at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) as the elections draw nearer (expected late February).

By now, you should have landed on one of the several trending campaign videos in which a group of students are recorded singing praises of a one Balunywa at MUBS.

The videos have caught the attention of many because of the style and creativity used in the campaign trail of the mentioned contestant.

When the semester commenced last month, MUBS hinted on declared the start of the elections season, a number of applications from interested contestants were submitted. This was just the moment when the name Balunywa stuck on almost everyone’s lips.

The name Balunywa should ring a bell amongst MUBS students, and yes that’s right, it is a surname to former MUBS principal – Prof Wasswa Balunywa. Guess what, the leadership genes went down all the way to the descendant, Juma Balunywa (son).

Born to the Wasswa Balunywa, Juma has taken the social media space by storm thanks to his strategic, creative and vibrant campaign manager, together with his team. They have redefined the art of campaigns giving people something they had not seen in a long time.

The interactive challenges and engaging content has propelled Balunywa into the spotlight, transforming him into a social media sensation in an instant.

Many netizens have commended his team’s resourcefulness and dedication to fostering a lively and engaging campaign atmosphere.

However, with great attention also comes scrutiny. Some people have questioned whether Juma’s familial connections could influence the outcome of the election, raising concerns about equality over the other candidates in the race, including Steward Chopre who is affiliated to the National Unity Platform (NUP) camp.
