TotalEnergies Brings Electric Charging to Kampala with New Public Station

(Kampala) – TotalEnergies Marketing Uganda has opened its first public electric charging station in Kampala at the Wampewo Service Station, in partnership with Green Hub. This launch represents a notable advancement in Uganda’s commitment to transitioning towards renewable energy and sustainable transportation options. The project aligns with Uganda’s Energy Transition Plan, introduced at the end of 2023, which outlines goals for increasing access to sustainable energy, integrating renewable resources, and promoting low carbon solutions.
Stephen Kaboyo, Chairman of the Board of Directors at TotalEnergies Marketing Uganda, noted that the initiative is fully in step with Uganda’s national objectives to adopt clean energy sources. Kaboyo highlighted that this project underscores TotalEnergies’ pledge to drive Uganda’s energy transition and contribute meaningfully towards the nation’s low-carbon future.

The newly launched electric charging station at Wampewo is one of the first public charging points in the country and is expected to catalyze the adoption of electric mobility. Future plans include the installation of additional charging stations across TotalEnergies’ service locations nationwide, enhancing convenience for Uganda’s growing number of electric vehicle users. Supporting this shift, TotalEnergies has partnered with Green Hub to deploy an initial fleet of 26 electric motorcycles, specifically intended for daily commutes and delivery services.
Green Hub, an organization focused on empowering women in the e-mobility sector, works closely with TotalEnergies through a collaborative network that includes key partners such as MTN, Centenary Bank, TVS, Women Rising for Africa, the Danish Embassy, and the Government of Uganda. These partnerships aim to foster an inclusive ecosystem for sustainable transportation while empowering female riders in Uganda.
To assist women entering the e-mobility field, TotalEnergies has donated $5,000 toward helping female riders purchase electric bikes. Additionally, the company has contributed 400 helmets to enhance the safety of these riders as they transition to electric vehicles.
