Viral Video of Museveni Effortlessly Farming With Ease Sparks Backlash Amid Calls for National Focus
A video of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni harvesting matooke at Vice President Jessica Alupo’s farm in Katakwi district is igniting massive backlash online.
The video, shared on the verified X handle of UBC Uganda, captured the 80-year-old leader visiting the farm alongside some of his cabinet members as part of his wealth creation tours. Museveni’s visit to Katakwi was followed by a stop in Serere district to inspect Parish Development Model programs aimed at uplifting rural livelihoods.
In Serere, the President visited the home of Joseph Ijala, a former taxi conductor who now manages a thriving four-acre farm. Ijala earns a steady income from 360 trays of eggs and 350 liters of milk daily.
Museveni later addressed residents at a public rally, emphasizing the success of the Parish Development Model in transforming lives.
The video of Museveni harvesting matooke has drawn divided opinions. Supporters lauded him for leading by example and showcasing the potential of agriculture.
However, critics accused him of engaging in political theatrics, arguing that the gesture distracts from pressing national issues. Some questioned the sincerity of his intentions, labeling the act a publicity stunt.
The debate highlights the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Museveni’s leadership and approach to addressing Uganda’s challenges.
