"Nothing Will Stop Me From Presidency" Museveni Gets Tough Competition Giving NRM Reason To Panic
Uganda People's Congress (UPC) president, Jimmy Akena, has declared his unwavering determination to contest in the 2026 presidential election, promising to secure Uganda’s future.
Speaking to a crowd at Ocero Trading Centre in Kaberamaido District on November 23, Akena stated, “Enough is enough. I will not be intimidated or threatened. Nothing will stop me from pursuing my dream of leading the people of Uganda.”
Akena, son of former president Milton Obote, received a warm welcome as he toured Amolatar District, where he introduced Geoffrey Ocen Kiring, Amolatar LC5 chairperson, as the UPC flagbearer for Kioga North Constituency.
During the event, Kiring donated three ambulances worth Shs450 million to support government health facilities in the district.
Addressing critics who doubted his candidacy, Akena emphasized his readiness, stating, “Let nobody deceive you that Akena is not standing. The most important question is why Akena is standing.”
UPC national vice-chairperson for Teso, Karl Peters Emukon, highlighted challenges faced by Lango and Teso residents under the current government.
He criticized the army's actions, including the burning of houses and fishing gear around Lake Kyoga, and accused President Museveni of failing to compensate cattle lost during the LRA insurgency.
Akena’s message of hope and determination, combined with the strong reception from the people, signals UPC's efforts to reclaim political relevance as Uganda prepares for the 2026 elections.
