Ministers Break Down in Tears in Bulambuli As Residents Hustle To Retrieve Dead Bodies After Landslide
Bulambuli District has recently faced a terrible disaster due to severe landslides. This tragic event has led to significant loss of life and widespread damage, particularly affecting five villages in Buluganya Sub County: Masugu, Namachele, Natola, Namagugu, and Tagalu.
As of now, 19 bodies have been recovered from the mudslides, but sadly, 100 people are still missing. Rescue operations have managed to save 15 injured individuals, who are now being treated at Buluganya Health Centre Three.
Police and other security agencies, along with local community members, are working hard to carry out rescue operations. However, these efforts are facing challenges due to blocked roads, which make it difficult for ambulances and heavy machinery to reach the affected areas.
The Uganda Red Cross Society and various emergency responders are also doing their best to provide support to those impacted by this disaster.
In a show of support for the grieving communities, Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Nabbanja and Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Relief, and Refugees, Hon. Lillian Aber, visited Masugu Primary School. During their visit, they were deeply moved as they viewed the bodies of those who lost their lives in the landslide.
Both leaders were seen in tears, highlighting the seriousness of the situation and the government's commitment to helping the affected communities during this difficult time.
As search efforts continue, local authorities are advising residents in nearby areas to stay alert and follow any safety instructions. The next few days will be crucial for finding those still missing and providing support to the families affected by this tragedy.
This unfortunate event reminds us of the serious impact of natural disasters and the need for communities to be prepared for such emergencies. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking situation in Bulambuli District.
