The Sad Death Of Museveni's Minister Who Was Shot Dead By His Own Bodyguard

The tragic death of Uganda's Minister of State for Labour, Employment, and Industrial Relations, Col. Charles Okello Engola, sent shockwaves across the nation.
On May 2, 2023, Engola was fatally shot by his bodyguard, Private Wilson Sabiiti, at the minister's residence in Kyanja, a suburb of Kampala. Following the shooting, Sabiiti turned the gun on himself, ending hisown life
Col. Engola was a highly respected figure in both the military and political spheres. Before his ministerial role, he served as the Deputy Minister of Defence and was recognized for his contributions to Uganda's security sector.
His untimely death raised questions about the mental health and working conditions of security personnel assigned to high-ranking officials.
The incident occurred early in the morning as Engola was preparing to leave for work. Initial reports suggested that the bodyguard may have been frustrated over unpaid wages, a claim that sparked widespread discussion about systemic issues affecting public servants and security personnel in Uganda.
President Yoweri Museveni and other leaders expressed deep sorrow over the loss, praising Engola for his dedication to the nation.
