Mathias Mpuuga Launches New Party, Recruits Alien Skin to Counter NUP
Hon Mathias Mpuuga has initiated a new political party, enlisting singer Alien Skin in a strategy aimed at countering NUP. The pressure group, named “The Democratic Alliance,” was unveiled today at Malibu Gardens located in Namirembe-Bakuli.During the launch event, Mpuuga expressed that the primary aim of the group will be to bring together Ugandans eager for change. He criticized his former party, NUP, for straying from its foundational goals and becoming a mockery.“The leading opposition party in Uganda is currently dormant. How is that possible? For the first time in history, there’s no activity. The last I heard, the group’s leader (Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine) was busy planning a major concert. This seems to be the plan—a lack of a plan. I suspect this is intentional,” Mpuuga remarked.Notable figures present included members of the DP Bloc like Simon Lubega Mukaaku, Michael Mabikke and Hon Abed Bwanika, alongside some former MPs. Mpuuga mentioned that this new pressure group intends to evolve into a political party. He also mentioned plans to launch candidates for both parliamentary and presidential elections.“We are here today to proclaim the formation of the Democratic Alliance…Our primary goal is to assist Ugandans in attaining the long-desired change in political leadership. The current opposition has become mired in divisive issues instead of concentrating on genuine transformation for the people of Uganda. This will not be the case with the Democratic Alliance,” he asserted.Additionally, Mpuuga introduced singer Alien Skin to the audience, allowing him a moment to address the crowd. The Sitya Danger artist stated that he and the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP share commonalities, as both faced accusations of theft. He committed to collaborate with the former Leader of Opposition in the forthcoming general elections.“Ladies and gentlemen, I want to share that one of my alleged offenses leading to my arrest was phone theft. Not everyone incarcerated in Luzira is guilty, just as not everyone out is innocent. Additionally, it’s reported that Hon Mpuuga is accused of misappropriating Shs 500m, so we are both labeled as thieves. As the saying goes, birds of the same feather flock together,” noted the Fangone Forest artist. It’s important to mention that Alien Skin was released from Luzira Prison on bail after facing charges related to phone theft and assaulting medical personnel at St. Francis Hospital in Nsambya. On the other hand, Mpuuga was accused of taking Shs 500m, an act criticized as unethical since the service commission was awarded to himself by a small faction of MPs including Mpuuga.Mpuuga has been in conflict with NUP after being removed from his position as the deputy president of the Buganda region. Ongoing disputes in public forums have prompted seasoned MPs to distance themselves from party activities.
