Ssenyonyi Responds to Amuriat's Claims of FDC Party Being Excluded From Monday's Opposition Caucus
The leader of the opposition in Uganda’s Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has dismissed claims by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Patrick Amuriat that his party was deliberately excluded from the opposition caucus held on Monday.
In a statement on X, Amuriat alleged that the FDC officials were not invited to the meeting, asserting that his party was being sidelined.
"Clearly, we’re the unwanted opposition group in pursuit of freedom. No matter what, we will move on by ourselves. Erias Lukwago doesn’t represent us," Amuriat wrote.
Responding to the allegations, Ssenyonyi expressed disappointment and accused Amuriat of being dishonest about the invitation process.
"Honourable, I think you're not being honest surely. I called you twice myself last week, and you hung up each time," Ssenyonyi wrote.
He added that after Amuriat failed to take his calls, he sent a follow-up message introducing himself and requesting a call back when Amuriat was free.
"You did not get back to me, Sir!" Ssenyonyi emphasized.
The opposition caucus, held at Parliament on Monday, focused on condemning rampant corruption in Uganda and expressing solidarity with political prisoners like Dr. Kizza Besigye.
It brought together leaders from various opposition parties, aiming to build a unified front against state injustices.
