Police Officer Shoots Dead One, Injures Two During New Year’s Eve Celebrations in Apac

The territorial police in Apac are investigating a tragic incident where a police officer, identified as PC Ikokole Richard Pius, shot and killed one person, Kabonesa Jesca, 30 years old, and injured two others, Apok Dorish, 28 years old, and Obok Maxwell, 23 years old, during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The incident happened around 00:30 hours at Kungu Ferry landing site in Aganga parish, Ibuje Sub-County.

According to reports, the police officer was on guard duty when a group of 30-40 excited people, celebrating the start of 2025, began throwing stones at houses and the police barracks. They then moved towards the ferry. It is alleged that the officer tried firing warning shots into the air to scare them away, but to no avail. They continued their disruptive behavior, and in the process, stray bullets struck three people, killing one on the spot and injuring two others.

The injured duo were rushed to Apac General Hospital for medical attention. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being investigated by the territorial police in Apac, and a case of murder by shooting and attempted murder has been registered.

The alleged firearm used has been recovered and exhibited as evidence.

The deceased’s body was conveyed to Apac Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

The officer is currently at large.

The Uganda Police Force pledges to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the facts and ensure that justice is served.
