Meet Uganda's Most Educated Female MP Who Became the First Woman Professor

Professor Victoria Nakiboneka Mwaka stands out as Uganda's most educated female Member of Parliament. In 1991, she made history by becoming the first woman in Uganda to become a professor.

Prof. Mwaka started her teaching career at Luweero Secondary School before joining Makerere University.

Over time, she worked her way up and became the head of the Geography Department at Makerere University. She also became the first head of the Department of Women and Gender Studies, a position she held from 1991 to 1995.

Apart from her work in education, Prof. Mwaka has also been involved in politics.

She was elected as the Woman MP for Luweero District from 2006 to 2011. During her time in Parliament, she worked to support women’s rights and promote their empowerment.

In 1993, Prof. Mwaka started Victoria Model Secondary School in Luweero Town Council. She wanted to give girls in the area a chance to get a good education. Many girls have been inspired by her to follow their dreams and do well in their studies.

Prof. Mwaka is a role model for many women and girls in Uganda. Her hard work, education, and dedication to helping others show what is possible when you work hard and believe in yourself. She continues to inspire young women to chase their goals and make a difference in their communities.
