"The independence of the police and judiciary is paramount for the rule of law," noted a prominent lawyer.

"When the President attempts to influence police bond decisions, it undermines public trust in these institutions and weakens democratic governance." he added.

Human rights advocates have also raised concerns that such remarks could embolden law enforcement to bypass legal protocols, potentially leading to the unlawful detention of suspects.

This would not only violate individual rights but also set a dangerous precedent for future governance.

Opposition leaders have seized the opportunity to criticize Museveni, accusing him of abusing his position and eroding constitutional democracy.
