Court Martial Sentences Besigye’s Lawyer To 9 Months In Prison
Following his dramatic arrest today afternoon inside the General Court Martial as he had gone to represent his clients Dr. Kiiza Besigye and Hajj Obeid Lutale, Counsel Eron Kiiza has been sentenced to 9 months in Kitalya prisons.
Eron Kiiza who was being blocked from taking a stand a lawyer tried to push his way and this is when chaos ensued leading to his dramatic arrest inside court by men in uniform and was instead pushed into the dock where Besigye and Lutale were standing.
He was later whisked away from the courtroom and taken into detention, only to return handcuffed hours later and charged with professional misconduct during court session.
This is terrible. Our comrade, @kiizaeron, one of the lawyers on the @kizzabesigye1 case, has been sentenced to 9 months in Kitalya Prison by a kangaroo military court simply for exercising his constitutional rights in court. This impunity MUST end! #FreeEronKizza pic.twitter.com/DQvcQ4uFWU

The sentencing of Lawyer Eron Kiiza to prison for 9 months by the court martial highlights the ugly picture at hand of trying civilians in the Military which was defined long time ago by the constitutional court but pending a final ruling by the supreme court.
