Hon. Ssegirinya to be Buried on Sunday

Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, will be laid to rest on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at his ancestral home in Masaka District.

This follows his untimely passing earlier today at Lubaga Hospital, where he had been receiving medical care.

The burial arrangements have been confirmed by National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, commonly known as Bobi Wine.

Although Hon. Ssegirinya was a Muslim, his family has made a special request to Islamic leadership to allow the burial to take place on Sunday, citing logistical considerations.

The burial program includes several activities to honor the late MP’s life and contributions:

Thursday, January 9: A vigil will be held at the NUP party headquarters in Kavule, Makerere, where supporters, colleagues, and family members will gather to pay their respects.

Friday, January 10: A special eulogy session will take place in the Parliament of Uganda, recognizing Hon. Ssegirinya’s service to the nation. This will be followed by prayers at Mbogo Mosque in Kawempe. Later, the body will be taken to his home in Kasangati for further tributes.

Sunday, January 12: The final journey will conclude with his burial in Masaka, where family, friends, and political leaders are expected to gather in large numbers.

Hon. Ssegirinya, widely admired for his dedication to his constituents and his unyielding advocacy for the underprivileged, leaves behind a legacy of selfless service.

Affectionately called “Mr. Updates” for his social media engagement, he was a passionate leader who fought tirelessly for better healthcare, education, and infrastructure in Kawempe North.

As the nation mourns his loss, tributes continue to pour in from across the country. Hon. Ssegirinya’s dedication to his people will forever be remembered, and his untimely passing has left a void in Ugandan politics.
