Pr. Bugingo: Museveni Won’t Hand Over Power to a 'Fake President,' Allegedly Referring to Bobi Wine

As Uganda prepares for the 2026 General Elections, Pastor Aloysius Bugingo from House of Prayer Ministries has made his support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni very clear. Speaking to his congregation at Canaan Land in Kinoni, Bugingo passionately defended Museveni’s leadership and dismissed the idea of handing over power to what he called a “fake president.”

Bugingo, who is known for his close relationship with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni’s son and Chief of Defence Forces, did not hold back in his praise. He highlighted Museveni’s role in guiding Uganda with strong moral values. “Uganda is built on our motto, For God and My Country. It stands as a shining example of faith in Africa, rejecting foreign cultures that threaten our traditions,” he told his audience.

The pastor was particularly critical of unnamed individuals running for the presidency, suggesting they do not have the right values to lead the nation. “Museveni cannot hand over power to someone who might support drug use or foreign ideas that go against our beliefs. I cannot accept a government that turns away from our values,” he said.

Bugingo also praised the Museveni family for their commitment to Uganda’s moral standards. He specifically mentioned Pastor Patience Rwabogo, one of Museveni’s daughters, as a role model of integrity and faith. He raised an important question about potential presidential candidates: “Do you think anyone running for president could command respect over Pastor Patience Rwabogo? And do you really believe Museveni would give power to such a person? It’s impossible.”

Bugingo’s comments have sparked discussions about the role of religious leaders in Uganda’s politics. While some view his statements as strong support for Museveni, others wonder whether religious figures should be so involved in political matters.

With the Electoral Commission updating the National Voters Register, political activity is increasing across the country. Candidates are getting ready for what is expected to be a highly competitive race for various positions, from local councils to the presidency.

Regardless of whether people agree with Pastor Bugingo or not, his statements bring attention to broader issues about leadership, values, and Uganda’s future. As we move closer to 2026, it is clear that voices like his will continue to influence public discussion in significant ways.
