We Are Tired of The Stupid Colonial White Borders - General Muhoozi Kainerugaba
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, has made waves with a powerful statement regarding Africa's colonial borders.
Following the fall of Goma, a key city in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kainerugaba expressed his frustration over the impact of colonial-era borders on Africa.
“We are tired of the STUPID colonial (white) borders,” he said.
The General's remarks, made in the wake of the military achievements of the Tutsi fighters, also known as the "Inkotanyi," have sparked heated debate.
Many African nations still grapple with the legacy of borders that were drawn without consideration of ethnic, cultural, or historical realities.
Kainerugaba’s words reflect a growing sentiment among some African leaders and citizens who believe these borders have contributed to ongoing tensions, conflicts, and divisions across the continent.
“The long-awaited re-drawing of Africa has begun,” Kainerugaba continued.
His comments came after Goma, a city with a complex mix of ethnic and political dynamics, was captured. This region, long contested due to the presence of various armed groups, has seen a resurgence of Tutsi-led military efforts.
While some have praised Kainerugaba’s stance as a call for African unity and self-determination, others have raised concerns.
Critics argue that rethinking borders could lead to more instability, especially in an already fragile region with unresolved ethnic and territorial disputes.
Redrawing borders could further fuel violence and tensions, potentially making conflicts even more challenging to resolve.
“The legacy of colonialism is deeply ingrained in Africa’s borders,” said an academic expert on African politics.
“But creating new borders based on ethnic lines could open a Pandora’s box of conflicts that we are not prepared for.”
