Hon. Ssemujju Nganda Accuses Attorney General of Repeating Amin-Era Tactics with Luzira Inmates

Ibrahim Ssemujju, the Kira Municipality Member of Parliament, has expressed his anger with the Attorney General Kiwanuka Kiryowa over holding prisoners in Luzira without a warrant.
In today's Parliamentary session, the 4th of February, 2025, Hon. Ssemujju aired out a shocking claim that the things that were carried out in Amin's regime are still being carried out today.
"The last time people were in Luzira on no warrant was after the fall of Idi Amin. So I didn’t know that the things that can be done with Amin and his soldiers can be done by Kiryowa Kiwanuka almost 40 years later," said Ssemujju.
Kiryowa is currently under fire as pressure is mounted on him regarding the release of the arrested civilians from the military court trials.
However, Kiryowa revealed in a statement to Parliament that Uganda Prisons Services has been told to wait until the process of the DPP taking over some criminal trials before the General Court Martial and the UPDF finishes transferring all cases to court for onward transfer to relevant courts, before action is taken on the inmates serving sentences or awaiting trial before the Court Martial.
