‘They Blocked My Way’ Indian Businessman Reveals How Thugs Robbed Him of Shs50 Million in Iganga
On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, an Indian businessman was robbed of Shs50 million by unknown assailants in Iganga District, Eastern Uganda.
The robbery occurred in Kasokoso village, Iganga Municipality, as the businessman was on his way to deposit the money at the Bank of Baroda.
According to Busoga East Police spokesperson, Mr. Michael Kafayo, the victim was intercepted by the robbers as he stepped out of his gate.
“Thugs this morning intercepted an Indian national when they parked their car in front as he came out of the gate of his fence and robbed him of the Shs50 million he was taking to Bank of Baroda to deposit,” Mr. Kafayo explained.
The businessman, who had earned the money by selling items the previous evening, was transporting it to the bank when the attack took place.
The robbers, who were in a black Toyota Corona Kiswa with registration number UBA 545A, blocked his way and took the money by force.
The police suspect that the robbery may have been planned by someone close to the businessman, as the assailants seemed to know exactly when and where to strike. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter and are looking for the suspects.
The businessman, who is still in shock, spoke to the police about the frightening experience.
“I never imagined something like this would happen to me. They blocked my way, and before I knew it, they had taken everything,” he said.
The robbery has raised concerns about the growing insecurity in the area. Residents and business owners in Iganga have expressed fear, as such incidents seem to be increasing.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
The local community has been urged to take extra precautions, and there is a call for stronger security measures, especially for those who deal with large sums of money. The police are still searching for the robbers and hope to catch them soon.
