Morning Drama as Angry Citizens Arrest 'Corrupt' Govt Official, Frogmarch Him to the Police Station

Members of the Western Ankole Civil Society Forum took matters into their own hands by arresting Bushenyi District Engineer, Barnabas Kiiza Mbonimpa, on allegations of embezzling 339 million Ugandan shillings earmarked for constructing a playground at Kabushaho Seed School.
According to the Daily Monitor report on Wednesday, February 5, the citizens apprehended Mbonimpa and escorted him to the local police station to face charges.
This incident follows a series of corruption allegations against Mbonimpa. In September 2024, the Bushenyi District Public Accounts Committee summoned him to account for one billion shillings allocated for road construction.
Mbonimpa failed to provide satisfactory explanations, leading to his dismissal from the meeting.
The arrest underscores growing public frustration with corruption in the district. Residents have previously expressed dissatisfaction with substandard infrastructure projects.
In November 2021, there was a public outcry after local leaders commissioned unfinished roads, prompting threats of protests from community members.
Police have now taken the matter for further investigation and probably charging the suspect accordingly.
