Minister Bans All Schools From Publishing Learners Exam Results Publicly, Reason Revealed
The Minister of Education, Janet Museveni, has officially banned schools from publicly displaying learners’ exam results.
This directive was announced during the release of the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, where the minister emphasized the need to protect students’ privacy and well-being.
The decision comes in response to concerns that publishing students’ names, grades, and photographs could lead to harassment, stigma, and emotional distress.
Minister Museveni stated that the Data Protection and Privacy Act prohibits the public display of children’s personal data.
To ensure compliance with this law, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and other agencies have been instructed to provide alternative ways of sharing results without compromising learners’ privacy.
Schools will now be required to use secure online platforms or provide individual results directly to students and their parents.
In addition to the ban, the Ministry of Education has announced the dates for the Senior Five selection exercise, which will take place on February 20-21, 2025.
This process will determine the placement of students in secondary schools based on their UCE performance. Minister Museveni assured the public that the selection will be conducted fairly and transparently.
Furthermore, the ministry has set March 3, 2025, as the official reporting date for Senior Five students.
Education officials have confirmed that all necessary arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth selection process. The decision to ban the public display of results is expected to enhance student privacy while maintaining a fair and organized education system.
