Ugandans Surprised as Besigye Writes a Letter From Prison Revealing His Health Status

Ugandans were taken by surprise after the Prisons Service presented a letter to court, written by opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, revealing that he is unwell and unable to attend his court proceedings.
Dr. Besigye, who is facing charges alongside Samuel Lubega Mukaaku for protesting against high commodity prices in 2022, was expected at Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court today.
His absence comes on the day the final witness in the case was set to testify.
According to his lead lawyer, Erias Lukwago, prison authorities have denied anyone access to Dr. Besigye since last Friday, raising concerns about his well-being.
Lukwago questioned the authenticity of the letter and demanded that his client be seen by family and legal representatives.
The revelation has sparked anxiety among Besigye’s supporters, many of whom believe his detention conditions could be worsening his health.
The court has yet to make a decision on the matter, but pressure is mounting on prison authorities to provide clarity on his condition and grant him necessary medical attention.
As Ugandans await further updates, Besigye’s health remains a growing concern in a case that continues to draw national attention.
