"Besides Hon. Ssemujju, NRM Can Out-seat Any MP in Kampala" – Hon. Tinkasimire

Hon. Barnabas Tinkasimire, the Member of Parliament for Buyaga County, appeared on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze with Simon Kaggwa Njala, where he shared his thoughts on various pressing topics in Uganda’s political sphere.

Tinkasimire addressed the Patriotic League of Uganda’s march to Parliament, led by Michael Mawanda, which protested corruption. He expressed support for efforts to combat corruption but emphasized that his focus has always been on self-reliance.

He shared that he has campaigned for re-election without the help of others, not even the President. Tinkasimire mentioned that President Museveni had backed his opponent, Denis Namara, in his constituency. Despite this, Tinkasimire remains confident in his political future.

Regarding Kampala’s political landscape, Tinkasimire stated that, apart from Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has the capacity to unseat any Member of Parliament in the city, signalling a shift in the capital's political dynamics.

Tinkasimire also commented on the appointments of the new Bank of Uganda Governor. He praised Michael Atingi-Ego, the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, for his performance over the last three years and expressed confidence that he would thrive as the next Governor, especially with Professor Nuwagaba, a respected academic, as his deputy.

When asked about speculation regarding the potential succession of President Museveni by his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba,Tinkasimire firmly opposed hereditary politics.

He emphasised that, despite having a daughter completing medical school, he would never consider pushing her into politics simply because he is a member of Parliament.

Tinkasimire also expressed criticism of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, stating, “For me, in the public eye, Muhoozi’s name is tainted. I don't relate to a person whose intellect is questionable.”
