AIGP Tom Mogambo Breaks Silence After Ugandan Accuses Police Officer of Death Threat

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Tom Mogambo has responded to serious allegations made by Comrade Kalali, who accused a police officer of threatening to kill him.
In a statement, Mogambo assured Kalali that the Uganda Police Force takes such complaints seriously and has directed the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Commander to handle the matter.
“My colleagues and I take such complaints seriously. I have tasked the KMP CID Commander to handle your complaint. Give him all the necessary information and evidence to support the investigation,” Mogambo stated.
The allegations have raised concerns about police accountability and the safety of Ugandans, especially those who speak out against abuses.
Kalali, whose identity and background have not been fully disclosed, claims he was threatened by a law enforcement officer under unclear circumstances.
The incident has sparked debate on whether police officers who misuse their authority are being held accountable.

Cases of police misconduct, including intimidation, arbitrary arrests, and threats against civilians, have been reported in the past, but few have resulted in serious action against the accused officers.
Human rights activists have called for a transparent and fair investigation, urging the police leadership to ensure that those found guilty are held accountable. The outcome of this case could set a precedent for how similar complaints are handled in the future.
