UPDF Finally Breaks Silence With Tough Statement After NUP Candidate Get Brutally Attacked

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has finally broken its silence, issuing a strong statement denying any involvement in the brutal attack on National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary candidate Erias Nalukoola and TOP TV journalist Ibrahim Miracle.

The attack, has sparked outrage, with calls for accountability from security agencies.

UPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye distanced the military from the incident, stating that the force has no authority over the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT), which has been linked to the attack.

He condemned the violence, clarifying that the police, not the UPDF, are responsible for the actions of JATT.

Despite JATT being a joint operation involving the UPDF and other security agencies, Kulayigye emphasized that Wednesday’s events were beyond the military’s control.

The Ugandan police have also denied any involvement in the attack, further complicating the situation.

The incident has raised concerns about political violence and press freedom in Uganda, with opposition members accusing security agencies of targeting government critics.

As investigations continue, human rights organizations and political leaders are demanding justice for Nalukoola and Miracle, urging the government to take decisive action against those responsible.
