"Museveni Should Declare NUP a Terror Group" Musician Nubian Li Reacts to Violence on NUP Supporters

Musician and opposition figure Nubian Li has strongly condemned the violence inflicted on supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) during campaigns for the party’s Kawempe North candidate, Elias Nalukoola.

Taking to X, Nubian Li accused security forces of brutality, claiming that masked officers from the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) attacked NUP supporters without justification.

“Museveni should just come out and declare NUP a terrorist group. We are tired of this violence and brutality meted out on us by Police and UPDF officers all fully masked with no name tags, whenever we have an activity. What happened yesterday was uncalled for,” he posted.

Eyewitnesses in Kawempe North reported chaotic scenes as security officers allegedly used excessive force to disperse NUP supporters.

Several people were injured, while others were arrested in what NUP members termed as targeted political suppression.

This is not the first time opposition supporters have accused the government of using security forces to intimidate and disrupt their activities.

The NUP, led by Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has repeatedly called for an end to what they describe as systematic repression.

NUP supporters have vowed to continue their campaigns despite the threats, insisting that they will not be silenced.
