NFA Cancels 112 Illegal Land Titles in Central Forest Reserves

The National Forestry Authority (NFA) has cancelled 112 land titles that were illegally issued within Central Forest Reserves (CFRs) across Uganda.
This move is part of ongoing efforts to protect the country’s forest cover from encroachment and fraudulent land acquisitions.
According to NFA, the affected land titles were primarily located in central Uganda, including Kampala, Kayunga, Mukono, Jinja, Masaka, Entebbe, and Mpigi.
These titles had been fraudulently issued on government-protected forest land, undermining conservation efforts and contributing to environmental degradation.
The cancellation aligns with NFA’s mandate to manage and safeguard CFRs, which collectively cover 1,265,741 hectares across the country.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, NFA is also reviewing another 700 illegal land titles that have been identified for possible cancellation.
NFA’s Communications and Public Relations Manager, Aldon Walukamba, cautioned the public against falling victim to fraudulent land dealers who issue fake documents for land located within forest reserves.
“We call on the public to be aware of illegal land dealers who fabricate documents and positions with the intention of creating fraudulent land titles on government forest land, duping unsuspecting clients of their time and money,” Walukamba warned.
He urged district local governments and other relevant authorities to refrain from processing land titles without verifying forest boundaries with NFA.
“We implore district local governments and other government agencies not to process or issue land titles without seeking information from the NFA,” he emphasized.
NFA has also encouraged the public to report any suspicious land transactions within Central Forest Reserves.
The authority reiterated its commitment to taking firm action against illegal land acquisitions to safeguard Uganda’s forest reserves for future generations.
