Viral Video Shows NRM’s Faridah Nambi Giving 50K Notes in Kawempe, People Refuse Cash Handout

As the Kawempe North by-election campaign continues, National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Faridah Nambi has faced criticism after a video surfaced showing her offering UGX 50,000 to voters at a market. The act, seen by many as voter bribery, was met with rejection as voters refused to take the money.
Nambi, who was nominated on February 27, 2025, has been campaigning across the constituency, promising to address key challenges. She has pledged to work on reducing high ground and property taxes affecting businesses and to set up a Presidential Youth Skilling Hub to provide vocational training and job opportunities for young people.
The NRM leadership has backed Nambi, emphasizing that she can work with government institutions to bring development to Kawempe North. Party officials argue that electing an NRM candidate would improve access to government services and funding.
However, the rejection of cash handouts raises questions about voter attitudes towards campaign practices and the ruling party’s approach in opposition strongholds.
With the by-election set for March 13, 2025, it remains to be seen whether Nambi can secure support amid concerns about voter bribery and electoral fairness.
