Fred Nyanzi's Son Faces Backlash for Refusing to Accept Defeat and Supporting NUP's Guild Candidate

Aiden Kaliisa, a committed supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has raised concerns about the actions of Sentamu Churchill James, the son of NUP's head of mobilization, Mr. Nyanzi Fred Sentamu. The controversy stems from Churchill's refusal to support the winner of the Makerere Guild election primaries, despite securing second place.

Kaliisa has pointed out several key issues:

- Why did Sentamu participate in a process he clearly does not respect?

- Does his position as the son of Nyanzi Fred Sentamu give him the privilege to undermine party rules?

- Can NUP leadership, particularly the party’s Institutions Wing, intervene to stop this behaviour?

- If Sentamu is unwilling to follow party rules, how can the party assure students he won’t compromise or betray them in the future?

These questions reflect deeper concerns about discipline within the party and whether family connections should shield individuals from accountability.

This situation has created uncertainty for some members, who believe that party rules should be upheld by all, regardless of personal ties.

The official election results, announced by Mbuga Zephaniah Kasimagwa, Chairperson of the Election Management Committee at Makerere University, show Basalirwa Ismaili securing the highest number of votes, followed by Sentamu Churchill James and Mugabe Job

Despite his strong performance, with 214 votes, Churchill chose not to support Basalirwa, raising further concerns about his commitment to the party's unity and discipline.

The declaration form, signed by Kasimagwa on 5th February 2025, officially confirmed H.E. Basalirwa Ismaili as the People Power Makerere University flag bearer for the upcoming Guild Elections in 2025.

However, tensions surrounding Sentamu's actions suggest that not all is well within NUP's student leadership, leaving many questioning the future direction of the party at Makerere University.
