The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has witnessed a major reshuffle as Colonel Deo Akiiki officially handed over his role as Deputy Director of Defence Public Information to Major Bilal Katamba.

As reported by UPDF on Monday, March 10, the transition took place at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya, marking yet another key appointment within the military ranks.

Colonel Akiiki, who has held the position for years, was recently appointed as the Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

His new role is seen as a significant step, given General Muhoozi’s growing influence within the UPDF.

Presiding over the handover ceremony, Major General Felix Kulayigye, Director of Defence Public Information, highlighted the importance of innovation, teamwork, and strong leadership in shaping the department.

He praised Colonel Akiiki for his contributions and ability to think beyond traditional approaches, which helped the department grow.

Expressing gratitude, Colonel Akiiki thanked both military and civilian staff for their support during his 22-year tenure.

Meanwhile, his successor, Major Katamba, acknowledged the guidance from Maj Gen Kulayigye and pledged to build on his predecessor’s achievements.

The event was attended by Defence Public Information staff, marking the official transition of leadership in the department.
