Fatal Accident Blocks Gulu-Kamudini Highway, Police Names Alternative Routes for Motorists

A fatal road accident on the Gulu-Kamudini Highway has resulted in one death and left another person seriously injured. The incident took place at Ngato Swamp in Oyam District when a broken-down trailer was struck by another vehicle, causing a significant obstruction on the road.
Traffic Police Spokesperson Michael Kananura explained that the first trailer had mechanical issues, and the driver was attempting to make repairs when the second trailer collided with the stationary vehicle. The crash caused the immediate death of the first driver, while the second driver was injured.
The accident has completely blocked the highway, creating severe traffic delays. Emergency teams are working to clear the debris and remove the vehicles, but the road remains closed for the time being.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion. Drivers heading to Gulu can take a detour through Minakulu Town Council and join Oyam-Lira Road-Kamudini. Those traveling to Kampala should divert via Kamudini-Atapara-Oyam Road-Minakulu-Gulu Road, and travelers to Lira can use Aboke-Iceme Road in Oyam, connecting to Bobi-Gulu Road.
For heavy vehicles, the recommended diversion for Kampala-bound trucks is Kamudini-Aboke-Iceme-Bobi-Gulu Highway, while Gulu-bound trucks should take the Bobi route.
Traffic authorities are urging road users to remain patient and cooperate with officers managing the situation. "We ask motorists to stay calm and follow the guidance of officers on the ground to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during this disruption," Kananura said.
