Minister Balaam Reacts to Nalukoola's Win, Announces Next Plans for NRM in Kawempe

Minister Balaam Barugahara congratulated Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi on his victory in the Kawempe North Parliamentary by-election, although he raised concerns about the election's legitimacy.

Barugahara acknowledged Nalukoola's win with 17,764 votes, ahead of his closest competitor, Nambi Faridah of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who received 8,593 votes.

While congratulating Nalukoola, Barugahara emphasised the need for unity among NRM supporters, particularly those loyal to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. He called for collective efforts to reclaim the Kawempe North seat in the 2026 elections, adding that NRM would not tolerate any chaos in future electoral processes.

Barugahara also expressed concerns about the election’s fairness, stating that Nambi Faridah, NRM’s candidate, was cheated. His comments reflect ongoing frustrations within the NRM camp over the by-election outcome.

Other candidates in the by-election received the following results:

Independent Edward Stanley: 22 votes

Democratic Party’s Henry Kasacca: 100 votes

Independent Luwemba Lusswa: 240 votes

Forum for Democratic Change’s Sadat Mukiibi (Kalifa Aganaga): 239 votes

Independent Hanifah Karadi: 381 votes

People’s Progressive Party’s Ismail: 39 votes

Independent Mutazindwa: 186 votes

Independent Moses Nsereko: 32 votes

Out of the total 28,002 ballots counted, 27,596 were valid, 406 were invalid, and 49 were spoiled.
