"For the First Time, I Want to Thank Rubongoya. I Rarely Find Anything Good in NUP" – Hon. Munyagwa

Former Kawempe South MP Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa has surprised many by praising National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya for his role in ensuring electoral transparency.

Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa, who has been a vocal critic of NUP, admitted that David Lewis Rubongoya displayed exceptional leadership during the recent Kawempe North by-election.

“For the first time, I want to thank David Lewis Rubongoya. I rarely find anything good in NUP, but Rubongoya proved to be a true Secretary General,” Munyagwa stated.

Mubarak Munyagwa’s comments came after allegations that some NUP officials attempted to manipulate election results by announcing incorrect figures.

However, David Lewis Rubongoya, armed with official Declaration of Results (DR) forms, countered any misinformation, ensuring the accurate tallying of votes.

Mubarak Munyagwa noted that while some party officials were eager to push their own narratives, Rubongoya remained committed to fairness and transparency.

“While some officials thought they could announce incorrect figures, Rubongoya had all the DR forms,” he said.

This unexpected praise from Munyagwa has sparked mixed reactions within the political space. While some see it as an acknowledgment of David Lewis Rubongoya’s professionalism, others view it as an indirect criticism of NUP’s internal struggles.

The opposition party has faced accusations of internal conflicts and lack of coordination, with some members allegedly prioritizing personal interests over party unity.
