M7 Suffer Major Blow as his Effort to Win Election Takes Heated Twist With New Candidate In the Race

President Yoweri Museveni's re-election efforts have hit a major hurdle after Democratic Alliance (DA) National Coordinator Mathias Mpuuga unveiled a team of regional coordinators to convert ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters to the opposition.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony at Namirembe Hill on March 14, 2025, Mpuuga urged the coordinators to engage NRM supporters directly, emphasizing the need for justice over revenge.
He referenced the violence witnessed during the Kawempe North by-election, calling on Ugandans to unite against the current leadership.
"Go to the NRM people in the countryside and speak to them. Show them the bigger goal — nation-building.
Don’t fear them, but don’t be compromised," Mpuuga stated. He assured supporters that the DA’s mission is to pursue justice for Ugandans affected by state brutality.
Mpuuga outlined plans to visit key regions, starting with Teso next month, followed by Bunyoro, Karamoja, and West Nile.
He also announced a strategy to engage professionals like teachers, engineers, and Ugandans in the diaspora to broaden support.
Clarifying DA’s role, Mpuuga stressed that it’s not a political party but a civic platform uniting opposition forces, civil society, and citizens to sponsor candidates in future elections.
Kimanya-Kabonera MP Abed Bwanika dismissed critics who doubt DA’s strength, stating, "We are Uganda’s best."
With DA gaining momentum, Museveni’s grip on power faces a fresh, organized challenge ahead of the 2026 elections.
