'Don't Be Misled,We Know Well That NRM Has Been Losing Kawempe North Seat For 25 years-Ofwono Opondo

Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has spoken out against what he calls “bad manners” within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
He expressed concern over growing entitlement and a lack of direction in the party, especially as it prepares for the upcoming by-election in Kawempe North.
“There is increasingly bad manners in the NRM. There is a lot of entitlement and loss of direction,” Opondo stated.
His words suggest frustration with how the party is handling internal affairs and election strategies.
Opondo pointed out that NRM has not won the Kawempe North parliamentary seat for the past 25 years.
Despite this history, the party has still decided to participate in the by-election.
He explained that his understanding was that the NRM’s main goal in this election was not necessarily to win but to demonstrate that it remains a strong political force.
“The NRM hasn’t won that seat in a long time (25 years). My understanding was that NRM was going to participate mainly to show that it is a good party,” he said.
The Kawempe North constituency has remained under opposition control for decades.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) and other opposition parties have built a strong support base in the area, making it difficult for the NRM to make significant gains.
Opondo’s remarks indicate that he believes the NRM should focus on its image and principles rather than expecting a sudden victory.
His comments also reflect wider concerns about internal party discipline and leadership direction.
Opondo’s statement comes at a time when there are growing tensions within the NRM regarding election preparations.
Some party members have been accused of acting in ways that harm the party’s reputation.
His warning about "bad manners" suggests that certain behaviors within the party could be affecting its ability to win elections.
