David Lewis Exposes 2 Major Gov't Officials Who Deployed Goons in Polling Stations to Disrupt Voting

National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya has accused two high-ranking government officials of orchestrating electoral violence during the Kawempe North by-election.

According to Rubongoya, Minister Balaam Barugahara and Minister Minsa Kabanda were at the center of efforts to disrupt the voting process after realizing that NUP’s candidate, Elias Nalukoola, was leading in all polling stations.

“The regime deployed goons at polling stations to disrupt the voting after noting that Nalukoola had won everywhere. Balaam and another Minister, Minsa Kabanda, spearheaded the disruption of the polling process. The goons were being protected by security agencies,” Rubongoya revealed.

The by-election, which was marred by violence and destruction of ballot boxes, saw security forces clash with voters in several polling stations.

NUP has accused the government of using intimidation and force to manipulate the electoral process.

David Rubongoya claimed that the hired goons, under the protection of security agencies, stormed polling stations, attacked voters, and interfered with ballot counting to prevent a clear NUP victory.

Despite the violence, Nalukoola emerged victorious, further solidifying NUP’s grip on the Kawempe North constituency.

However, Rubongoya warned that such acts of state-sponsored election interference could set a dangerous precedent for Uganda’s democracy.

“This was not just an attack on NUP but an attack on the democratic rights of Ugandans. We cannot allow such impunity to continue,” he stated.

Rubongoya called on local and international election observers to take note of the government’s tactics and hold those responsible accountable.

Even as the political standoff continues, NUP has vowed to defend its victory while pushing for electoral reforms to prevent similar incidents in future elections.
