Muhoozi to Trump: Uganda and Rwanda Must Be Included in East Africa’s Mineral Deals

Uganda’s General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has issued a bold warning to U.S. President Donald Trump, advising him against signing any mineral deals in East Africa that exclude Uganda and Rwanda.
Taking to social media, Muhoozi, a senior presidential advisor and son of President Yoweri Museveni, expressed his concerns directly, referring to Trump as his "hero and fellow Muchwezi."
He stated, “@realDonaldTrump should NEVER sign a mineral deal in East Africa without the involvement of Uganda and Rwanda!”
The message comes as Trump’s administration reportedly explores new economic partnerships on the continent, particularly in resource-rich regions.
East Africa holds vast deposits of valuable minerals, including gold, rare earth elements, and lithium essential for modern technology.
Muhoozi’s statement highlights growing regional tensions over international deals and the fear of economic marginalization.
Uganda and Rwanda, both influential players in the region, have pushed for greater control over their natural resources and more involvement in foreign negotiations.
It remains unclear whether Trump will respond to Muhoozi’s remarks or adjust his administration’s approach to East African partnerships.
However, the general’s warning signals that any exclusive agreements may face political resistance from key regional leaders.
This development adds a new twist to East Africa’s evolving geopolitical landscape, with Muhoozi positioning Uganda and Rwanda as central to future deals.
