Inside the Luxurious Mansion of Gen. Charles Oluka that Has Sparked Controversy Since His Demise
The lavish mansion of the late General Charles Oluka has become a hot topic in Uganda following his death.
Located in Katovu village, Kajjansi town council, Wakiso district, the grand residence has sparked curiosity, with many questioning how he managed to finance such a luxurious property while serving as a public official.
The mansion is an expansive, modern four-story structure featuring elegant balconies with metal railings that add to its sophisticated appearance. Tall glass windows allow ample sunlight to illuminate the interior, enhancing its beauty. The exterior walls are painted in soft, light colors, further elevating the house’s rich and classy look.
One of its most striking features is the grand entrance, marked by a white pavilion supported by large columns, giving it a prestigious feel. The ceiling inside the entrance is painted yellow, adding a touch of warmth and elegance. A well-crafted staircase leads up to the entrance, making the home even more impressive.
Near the entrance stands a golden fountain, a clear indication of wealth. The house also boasts a spacious, paved driveway, making access easy for vehicles. The entire property is meticulously designed, reflecting both affluence and careful planning.
The mansion is surrounded by a beautifully maintained garden filled with lush greenery, colorful flowers, and tall palm trees. Stone plant beds enhance the landscaping, while an outdoor seating area with a metal frame and canopy provides a comfortable space for relaxation and hosting guests.
At the top, a rooftop terrace with safety railings offers additional space for leisure and entertainment, showcasing the home’s luxurious nature. Every element of the mansion was designed to provide maximum comfort, reflecting the general’s desire for a high-standard lifestyle.
Following his passing, many Ugandans began questioning how Oluka could afford such an opulent residence. Some suspect that his wealth may have come from questionable sources, as it is uncommon for a public servant to accumulate such riches. Others, however, argue that he had alternative sources of income beyond his government salary.
A social media user, Ian Gumisiriza, defended Oluka, stating that he did not rely solely on his military earnings. According to him, after being removed from his position at the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) in 2017, Oluka and his wife, Harriet, established a business called Harchar International Labour Agency Ltd. This company, which helped Ugandans secure jobs abroad, reportedly became a significant source of income for the family.
Gumisiriza urged people to remember Oluka as a hardworking and humble individual rather than accusing him of corruption. He maintained that the late general’s wealth was earned through business and not illicit means.
Nevertheless, skepticism persists among Ugandans, with many arguing that even with a successful business, affording such a mansion remains highly improbable. Some believe a formal investigation is necessary to determine whether all his wealth was acquired legally.
Despite the ongoing debate, Oluka’s mansion stands as one of the most remarkable homes in Uganda. Its size, architectural beauty, and luxurious design make it a symbol of prestige and power. While discussions about the source of his wealth may continue, the magnificence of his mansion is undeniable and will remain a subject of conversation for years to come.
